Our ambition: We encourage competitive regional economic structures and ensure that rural areas are well supplied.
This means:
— Jobs and future prospects in rural regions of Switzerland
— Solidarity with farmers and closeness to consumers
— Provision of basic supply in rural areas
— A positive perception of fenaco in urban populations
— Shifting requirements due to demographic developments
Why social responsibility is important
Agriculture is a field that is constantly changing, and structural transformation is ongoing. Currently, there are about 48,000 farms in Switzerland. In 1995 – shortly after fenaco was founded – there were still around 80,000. The amount of agricultural land has also decreased since then, resulting in a significant loss of land capable of producing food.
This trend is particularly obvious in the Swiss Plateau, previously a prime location for farming. In mountain areas, families are often not able to live from their farming income and are forced to take on additional work. At the same time, more and more people are living in conurbations, cities and suburban areas. As a result, important infrastructures in rural areas, such as village shops, post offices, ATMs and restaurants, are disappearing.

We measure our sustainability performance through 14 goals. The goals in relation to society can be found here.
